The Boy in Striped Pajamas: ***
This story is a bit different than you would expect. It gives a whole new hope for those who feared the Nazi’s. It claims those who lives were in danger due to the staggering choices of other. It is about a young boy who doesn’t quite understand the nazi movement. His family shows no emotion in telling him what it seems to all be about. Instead they try to teach him the new form of learning right away without a word of explanation. This round about way makes him on the border of good and evil.
Asa Butterfield, who plays Bruno the young boy, is not afraid of the jews such as his father and troops are. All he wants is a friend to play with. While his family moves to a new house, he finds himself friendless. There he finds himself sneaking around to escape the fenced in house. Where he finds a friend, who is trapped in a camp, called Shmuel. Shmuel is a boy his age who is hairless and in striped uniform that looks like pajamas to Bruno. They bond a friendship, which in turn gives them many up’s and downs.
David Thewlis, who plays Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter Series, acts as the father of Bruno. He is a Nazi officer who is in charge of the camp that is near to them. During their stay his decision making and his career choices make his wife change her mind about why they are there. She in turn makes a change in attitude. It shows a whole new side of the nazi movement in the form of family separation, but of the nazi families. In the end, their decisions and lack of explanation are the ones that causes them everything.
